Andrew's John Kenneth McCann diary, Monday 15 July, 1996

John was very dopey again today. Although good that he wasn't in pain, it was rather unnerving to see him clearly so sedated. We were so glad that we had seen him active on Saturday morning, so that we knew that he did have so many normal reactions, because otherwise we might have despaired.

We had been trying not to interfere with what the nurses were doing, but Mandy had been saying to me that she wished she could do more for him. Later on, the nurse on duty suggested that in the morning we might start to clean his mouth and change his nappies. Mandy was very tired and went up to the ward, but I stayed with him for a little. While I was there, he was due for another nappy change, so I got chance to do the first one. Luckily it was a dry one, so I was broken in gently. Mandy was a bit sad to have missed the big event, but looked like she would cope.

Mandy tried getting John to breast-feed today, but he was very tired and not really interested.
