- on the Millennium Bug

a) From those which ARE expecting the Bug to have effects on their business

"Time spent reassuring clients. Also clients have adopted a policy of not installing software upgrades and new systems until January 2000."

"WE recently received a PC from Dell that had Win 95 installed (for our process of testing work on different platforms). We were stunned to find a non-Y2K compliant version installed - if Dell are still making mistakes, then who else isn't ready?"

"We have done all we can i.e. under our control to reduce any impact by the bug. We attended the seminar and both courses - 2 day assess and manage and four day repair and build - all of which heavily promoted by our Business Link (well done !!) and followed through. However trying to ascertain definitive responses from the major suppliers (B.T., Electricity, Gas etc) has not been so easy. This therefore leaves us with a few reserves in place e.g. candles, alternative heat source etc. The over-riding feeling is that of a nagging doubt that we've forgotten something. We know we've done all we can but .......... A little like the feeling as you set off on holiday and wonder if you HAVE turned the gas off. It would be useful to know how the rest of the world is getting on, we hear that Britain is second to the USA in the table of readiness so there is hope for the satellites but what about the technologies controlled and run in the rest of the world? Information would be useful please."

"Caution in implementing new Computer / Network / Telephone Systems affecting new orders"

b) From those which ARE NOT expecting the Bug to have effects on their business

"A situation, which whilst there are problems that really do exist, has nonetheless been severely hyped-up mainly by those seeking make financial gain from it."

"Use Apple Mac"

"We took all the action necessary at the beginning of 1999 to ensure we would NOT be affected"

"I'm personally not particularly clued up about the bug, but our clients are Y2K compliant and we run a simple network that is y2k compliant so hopefully no problems."

"I do not expect the MB to have any direct effects though it could have an indirect effect. ie BT not working"

"We ran software and we seem to be all right, however I'm puzzled. How come we've been bombarded by warnings about the millenium bug, whereas it appears that people in America have heard virtually nothing? They've had no adverts, no literature - and I even know of a big government organisation which hasn't even checked their computers. It makes me wonder if this thing has just been blown up for whatever reason."

"The correct answer is that I don't know for certain, neither does anybody else with any degree of certainty until January 2000 or even later. I have done what I can to eliminate or at worst reduce the impact."

"over-hyped"
